D’Ogries’ clerestory windows in the Good Shepherd Rosemont, PA show some masterful draughtsmanship and color, Here is his cartoon for the window depicxting Bishop Samuel Seabury of Connecticut. Seabury was the first bishop of the American (Episcopal) Church. Following the revolution he went to Scotland where Scottish bishops were less concerned about the relationship between Church and State that obtained in England where the bishops refused to consecrate a bishop who did not swear allegiance to the Crown. Seabury was also a “high churchman” and as such always held an exalted position in the history of the Episcopal Church for Anglo-Catholics of the sort of parish like the Good Shepherd.
That bit of history aside, the cartoon shows not only his exquisite draughtsmanship, but also his color notes added to the drawing.
As a further aside, he is shown wearing the curious mitre that he himself designed.
